A global manufacturing company needed to address its business continuity strategy due to concerns around the reliability of business data. The company needed to modernise its backup and recovery strategy to ensure faster and more reliable availability of business-critical information. Additionally, the company needed to reduce application downtime, their existing data backups, which were taking more than 40 hours to complete. Storage and management costs were rising as a result.
The Solution
Constor Solutions leveraged the latest Integrated Data Protection appliance from Dell Technologies to provide off-site replication and recovery capabilities, as well as a consolidated backup of systems to a dedicated appliance.
We proposed a Dell EMC Integrated Data Protection Appliance DP4400 for all the backup copies of the data and a Dell EMC Unity storage array with RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines software. The additional storage array provides a secondary copy of the data in the production system housed at the second location for failover in case of disaster.
The IDPA DP440 solution allows users to recover data instantly from a purpose-built appliance. The IDPA appliance offers a much-reduced storage footprint compared to their current environment as the DP4400 appliance only consumes 2U of rack space. The simplicity of the system also allows for a reduction in management time and cost, and data recovery time was reduced to less than 30 minutes.
The Outcome
Constor Solutions leveraged its partnership status with Dell Technologies to offer the customer significant commercial benefits and annual cost savings with an ROI from the new infrastructure after only 14 months. The Dell EMC IDPA now provides a single pane of glass operation and protects 100% of their critical data assets all of which are protected within their daily backup window. The company has also gained a disaster recovery solution with off-site replication. Dell EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines software provides a near synchronous copy of the virtual machines from the storage array in their production environment to their DR location. This software reduces both the application downtime impact on business and the total cost of ownership.
